Context
Aerow is a student project that conceptualizes a digital twin of an airport, in the form of an interactive map. The interface is designed to leverage the digital twin and AI to help travellers navigate the airport and provide recommendations based on proximity.
The Problem
As of July 2022, Toronto Pearson Airport is ranked one of the worst airports for flight delays. Many travellers will feel anxiety prior to their flight, and walk into an airport hoping that they can wing it. This is especially true if they are not frequent flyers and are unfamiliar with airport procedures. However, flight disruptions, long lines and missing baggage are universal pain points that all travellers will all inevitably experience.
Our goal is to provide as many travellers as possible with the tools to access information and navigate airport systems and procedures.

Proposed Solution
Aerow is a digital twin solution, in which passengers can scan their boarding passes or enter their details to access information regarding their flight. With the integration of Toronto Pearson’s existing digital maps and kiosks, Aerow will suggest the most optimal route for passengers to get to their gate and nearby amenities. With Aerow, travelers will be more informed about the space they are in, and airport help desks will be less overwhelmed.
Usability Testing
We asked participants to explore the interface and complete tasks to help identify where our prototype is lacking. We specifically wanted to find out whether the interface was intuitive and if the terminology was not misleading to the user.
Participants were encouraged to think aloud as they went through the interface. This allowed to hear their thoughts on things we may have not initially thought about which will give us the opportunity to improve on more aspects of our prototype.
Tasks Included
Storyboard
From anxious arrival to confident navigation, showing the full journey across kiosk and mobile touchpoints.
The Final Designs
Kiosk Prototype
Web App Prototype
The StreamLine mobile banking app redesign successfully addressed the usability issues, resulting in a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. The improved UX/UI design led to increased user adoption, engagement, and satisfaction, demonstrating the value of a well-designed template for UX designers.
